Disney have officially announced the name of the actress playing their iconic role of Ariel in the upcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. Halle Bailey has won the coveted role and whilst the majority of fans were thrilled with the casting, some did voice objections.
Many raised concerns that Ariel is “white” in the cartoon and Halle – who is of both African and Indian decent – didn’t fit the “correct imagery”. Rightly so, the majority of Disney fans hit back calling out the “blatant racism” of the arguments. We for one can’t wait to see Halle take on the role!
