After months of construction and secretive planning, Universal Orlando Resort has finally announced the details of their new Jurassic World-themed attraction. Set to open in summer 2021, the new VelociCoaster will send guests catapulting up to 70 mph and more than 150 feet into the air becoming Florida’s fastest and tallest launch coaster.

Billed as “a new species of roller coaster”, the attraction will be the first of its kind based on the blockbuster franchise. A new original story is promised to expand upon the thrills, dinosaurs and environments which have since become synonymous with the Jurassic Park franchise and will feature the original cast from the films.

Universal Orlando Resort released a snippet of details on what guests can expect from the coaster stating: “Riders will embark on a high-speed chase and feel the rush of the hunt while racing alongside a nimble Velociraptor pack.” Reaching heights of 155 feet and over 4,700 feet of twisted track, riders will experience a coaster experience unlike anything else on offer.

A unique barrel roll will send guests spiralling just inches from the Islands of Adventure lagoon, a towering “Top Hat” will send them down an 80 degree drop – Universal’s steepest yet – and a zero-gravity inverted stall will leave daring guests upside down across 100 feet of track in a manoeuvre that is the first of its kind.

Whilst the new original plotline for the attraction is under wraps, construction images have shown animatronic “raptors” being lifted into place beside the extensive theming. Concept art also showcased the first look at the coaster’s trains which will feature blue lighting as it traverses around the track.

The new immersive experience was made in partnership between the Universal Creative team and the filmmakers at Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, who are currently working on the highly anticipated Jurassic World: Dominion sequel. The movie is set to welcome back the original stars from the first Jurassic Park movie, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Dern.

Jurassic Park: VelociCoaster is set to open in summer 2021 at Islands of Adventure, Universal Orlando Resort, Florida.
