s the Festive period is upon us, we’ve scouted out the top 10 Christmas events happening across the UK and beyond. From the more traditional Christmas Festivals to the more uniquely themed events, we’ve got all your Christmas visits sorted for 2019.

Is there a more magical Christmas than a Dickensian one? York Castle doesn’t seem to think so as they transform their Victorian street Kirkgate in a Christmassy showcase of all things Charles Dickens.

Featuring some of the iconic author’s most celebrated stories, including A Christmas Carol and Oliver Twist, visitors will be able to fully immerse themselves into a magical festive experience.

Street shops are stocked with festive displays and the street will feature sounds of the season, including choirs performing by a twinkling Christmas tree. You may even catch a glimpse of Father Christmas himself ahead of his busiest time of the year.

A Dickensian Christmas runs on weekends from 16 November – 22 December plus 23 and 24 December.

Natural History Museum Ice Rink

The Natural History Museum Ice Rink is back!

Experience the magic of skating surrounded by fairy lights and frost-covered trees at one of London’s most popular Christmas venues. The Natural History Museum is an historic building synonymous with mankind’s greatest endeavours and you can experience it all with a magical Christmas touch.

The Ice Rink is runs until 12 January 2020 and is open from 10am – 10pm.

Leeds Christkindelmmarkt - Traditional German Market

Millennium Square will once again host the annual German Christmas Market, Chirstkindelmarkt, for those visiting the city of Leeds. Featuring authentic wooden chalet stalls, cosy indoor retreats and a traditional carousel, Christmas arrives in style.

The market is free entry and is open from 10.30am – 9.30pm (7.30pm on Sundays).

York Christmas Festival

The award-winning Christmas festival has returned to York showcasing the city’s medieval charm at this festive time. Eat, drink and see what York has to offer from their stunning markets, fairs and other stalls.

The Christmas Market and St Nicholas Fair both won Best Large Speciality Market at the Great British Market Awards in 2019, proving that York knows bets how to celebrate Christmas!

Chatsworth House at Christmas

Every year Chatsworth House celebrates Christmas with a unique theme and this year is no different. ‘In a Land Far Far Away’ sees the House transform into a celebration of the Festive period across the globe. Follow in the footsteps of Phileas Fogg and Amelia Earhart as they traverse from the blossom trees of Japan to a Nordic winter wonderland.

Chatsworth House is owned by the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and is regarded as the most beautiful house in Britain. Experience the magic of Christmas like never before only at Chatsworth House until 5 January 2020.

Hyde Park's Winter Wonderland

Located in the heart of London, Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland returns for more festive celebrations. With over 100 spectacular rides and attractions, Winter Wonderland has become a staple of the Christmas season.

This year there are brand new attractions, including the world’s largest transportable Observation Wheel as well as the returning open-air ice rink, the UK’s largest.

Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland is free admission though the there is a charge for most of the attractions and rides. The park is open from 10am – 10pm every day until 5 January 2020 (closed Christmas Day).

Does anyone do Christmas better than Disney? Disneyland Paris is certainly reminding us that they do. With their spectacular Christmas Parade and Mickey’s Magical Christmas Lights, Disneyland Paris is all set of the festive season.

With the usual rides and experiences ready and prepared to excite and awe-inspire, Disney invites you to celebrate Christmas at the happiest place on Earth!

Christmas at Windsor Castle

The Queen’s speech is integral TV viewing on Christmas Day, but you can also visit one of her homes where she has previously recorded her festive message to the Nation – Windsor Castle.

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the births of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, the Octagon room will feature a special display of gifts exchanged between the historic royal couple. Visitors can also see the magnificent centrepiece at Windsor Castle, the 20-foot-high Nordmann Fir tree in St George’s Hall.

The exhibition is on until Sunday 5 January 2020.

Northern Lights Express - NYMR

This year the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is bringing the magic of Christmas with their Northern Lights Express. On selected evenings guests will be able to travel from Pickering Station to Levisham Station upon a magical and spectacular illuminated journey on heritage carriages decorated with thousands of lights.

Along the way, passengers will travel through a twinkling forest and watch a mesmerising light show at Levisham like you’ve never seen before!
