at Thor” is no more. New photos from the set of the upcoming Marvel movie Thor: Love and Thunder have surfaced revealing Chris Hemsworth is in God of Thunder shape once again. The Australian actor is currently filming the upcoming sequel – the fourth Thor movie – in Sydney and was spotted with co-star and fellow Marvel “Chris”, Chris Pratt whilst preparing for a scene.
Hemsworth was wearing a new costume for the character, featuring a white tank top and sleeveless leather jacket. Unlike Thor: Ragnarok, which saw Thor lose his long golden locks, they seemingly have made a return following on from his appearance in Avengers: Endgame. Finishing off the costume with denim jeans, the images showed the actor holding Thor’s trusty hammer ‘Stormbreaker’. The bright new costume has led fans to quickly point out that Thor’s new costume points to a more classic rendition of the characters appearance.
Earlier in the day, Hemsworth was joined by other stars set to feature in the movie, including Chris Pratt as Star-Lord (aka Peter Quill), Karen Gillan (Nebula) and Sean Gunn, seemingly confirming that the Guardians of the Galaxy will be making an appearance.
Both Chris’s were spotted acting alongside an animatronic animal, which fans believe is one of Thor’s magical goats, and with the rivalry between Star-Lord and the God of Thunder established in Infinity War and Endgame, it will be interesting how these elements will play out.
Although there was no sign of any other actors onset, Thor: Love and Thunder boasts an impressive cast list including, Tessa Thompson replaying Valkyrie from Thor: Ragnarok, Natalie Portman – who is set to return as Jane Foster, though this time will embody the role of Lady Thor; Christian Bale is to bring the movie’s villain to life – Gorr the God Butcher, Jaimie Alexander is also set to return as Lady Sif, who was believed to have been killed off in the previous movie, and Taika Waititi has returned as director after his successful “reboot” of Thor in Ragnarok.
There are also rumours that Matt Damon, who briefly featured in Ragnarok as an “actor” playing Loki, has been cast in an undisclosed role.
Whilst details are sparce over the plotline of the movie, Thor: Love and Thunder looks to be centred around the ‘Lady Thor’ plotline, which sees Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) dying of cancer and through picking up Thor’s hammer Mjolnir becomes the new Goddess of Thunder. Other details have remained secret, though Hemsworth did describe the script as “one of the best I’ve read in years”.
“It’s Taika at his most extreme, and at his best,” says Hemsworth. “If the version I read is the one we get running with, it’s going to be pretty insane…It makes Ragnarok feel like a really run-of-the-mill, really safe film. This new movie feels like we asked a bunch of 10-year-olds what they wanted to see and then just said yes to every single thing.”
Thor: Love and Thunder is expected to arrive in cinemas on February 18, 2022.
