e’s been a part of the Marvel Universe right from Phase 1, and Chris Hemsworth has confirmed that he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The hammer-wielding Australian actor, who has played Thor since 2011 and starred in eight movies overall, announced his commitment to the Marvel Universe in the latest issue of Poland’s Elle Man.

“Are you crazy?! I'm not going into any retirement period [laughs]. Thor is far too young for that. [He's] only 1500 years old!" said Hemsworth, after being asked whether the next Thor movie, Love and Thunder, will be his swansong.

"It is definitely not a film that I say goodbye to this brand. At least I hope so."

The Hollywood heavyweight is returning as the titular character for the series fourth movie next year. Filming is expected to begin in early January 2021 on the Gold Coast in Australia, though Natalie Portman – who is making her return to the franchise – was seen landing in the country last week.

Chris also gave intriguing new details about the Love and Thunder, which is to be directed by Thor: Ragnarok visionary, Taika Waititi.

“After reading the script, I can say that I am very excited," he announced. "I am sure there will be a lot of love and a lot of lightning in this production [laughs].

"I'm glad that after all that happened in Avengers: Endgame, I'm still part of the Marvel Universe and we can continue the story of Thor. Of course, I can't reveal anything about the plot, but to satisfy your curiosity, I will say that reading the script I had a lot more fun than on Thor: Ragnarok, and that shows something, because [that] movie was brilliant.”

Chris’ final comments will be great news for fans who were more than impressed with Thor: Ragnarok and Waititi’s change in tone and inclusion of comedy. Expected to return in the next instalment alongside Hemsworth and Portman is Tessa Thompson who played Valkyrie. Waititi will also return as the lovable and hilarious Korg – who for many fans, stole the entire movie.

Thor: Love and Thunder is expected to release on February 11, 2022.
