e handed over the famous shield at the end of Avengers: Endgame, but is Chris Evans set to return as Captain America once again? According to Deadline the star is expected to reprise his role in the MCU “in some form” and is close to finalising a deal with Marvel.
Whilst details on the nature of Evans return is vague, insiders say that he will take up the shield and cap of Captain America in at least one Marvel property, with the option to appear in a second film. Sources have also seemingly confirmed to Deadline that it is unlikely a new Captain America movie will emerge from the deal and Evans’ appearances will be similar to Robert Downey Jr. reprisals after Iron Man 3.

The news will come as a surprise to fans after Evans made it clear he would be hanging up the shield for good after Endgame. This was confirmed after Steve Rogers handed over the shield to Anthony Mackie’s character at the end of the movie.
According to reports, the idea of Evans’ returning to the MCU as Steve Rogers had been touted over the last few months with the actor warming to the idea. This has now led to an eventual agreement at the top of this year.
How or when he might return is still unclear and the details are currently being worked out, but the options have been described as “unlimited”. With the addition of new Disney+ limited series including The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki, there are numerous ways in which Captain America can re-enter the MCU.

Evans’ has numerous projects lined up in the meantime. He is currently filming Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up for Netflix alongside an impressive line-up, including – deep breath – Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Rob Morgan, Cate Blanchett, Jonah Hill, Himesh Patel, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Ron Perlman, Kid Cudi, Matthew Perry, Tyler Perry and Tomer Sisley.
This will be followed by another Netflix movie, A Gray Man alongside Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas which will see Evans’ reunite with Marvel filmmakers Anthony and Joe Russo. And finally, the actor will lend his voice to tell the “real-life” story of the iconic space ranger Buzz Lightyear, the toy is based on in Disney Pixar’s Lightyear.
